Saddam Haftar named Deputy-Commander of the Libyan Army

Khalifa Haftar’s son, Saddam Haftar, has been promoted from Army Chief of Staff to Deputy Commander in what appears to be a clear show of trust, signaling his father’s preference for him as successor. The ceremony as conducted yesterday under the auspices of his father and rump-dictator, Khalifa Haftar. The Haftar family controls most aspects of the Libyan government and society in the east of Libya with their seat in Benghazi. The appointment was also approve by the rump parliament in Benghazi and praised by Prime Minister Osama Hammad.

Khalifa Haftar was appointed Field-Marshall by the rump parliament of Bengehazi in March 2015. The Haftar family is strengthening its ties with Russia and China and also the United Arab Emirates as it seeks to establish its own state instead of working for the amalgamation of Libyan institutions into one and unified State.
