The problems with the fake outrage over the racism directed at Omar Rababah following his candidature with the Labour Party are twofold. Firstly, the outrage is being fabricated by the Labour Party and Omar Rababah himself, both of whom have been playing the Islamic card to provoke the far-right and racist bigots, while projecting an image of progressiveness and inclusion through the reaction to the ongoing victimisation.
Secondly, Omar Rababah is actually a horrible person with genuinely horrible ideas and political affiliations. Apart from misrepresenting himself to the Syrian community in Malta and even soliciting donations for Palestine to his personal bank accounts, Omar Rababah is also a dedicated Assadist and was able to fly to Damascus at a time when millions of Syrians did not have that privilege.
This is also the reason why the Syrian community has not been very vociferous in his defence amid the calls for solidarity over the racism directed at him. In reality, Omar Rababah can only gain sympathy in this manner because his politics are actually horrible. Provoking racists and victimising himself is therefore the only way he can gain some popularity. The Labour Party is also gaining a lot from this mise-en-scène as it manufactures an image of inclusion and tolerance.
He is giving all the grifters and fraudsters within Labour an opportunity for some virtue-signalling, fulfilling his role within Labour perfectly well. It is also why the Labour government pushed him through the ranks of the public service and even allowed him to take on a full-time course at the University while retaining his full-time employment with the government.
