Change can be very good and relieving, especially when it is meant to replace dinosaur-era figures. But by now it should have dawned on everyone that the Labour government’s real intention with the change of Speaker is to further dumb down Parliament and introduce more censorship.
I remember Carmelo Abela very well from my days in the Labour Party, and I can think of very few other Labour Party politicians as useless and dim as him. Making him Speaker kills two birds with one stone: first, Labour removes him completely from the political-electoral field; second, Labour appoints a malleable servant who will drag Parliament’s standards even further below their already abysmal level.
It is not true, as he claims, that he was absolved of wrongdoing in the criminal investigation involving the HSBC bank heist in Qormi. The police simply avoided investigating him altogether, just as they avoid investigating Labour Party politicians.
Insane.
