Russia has banned diesel exports earlier this week on Wednesday via a decree signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin as fuel shortages in Russia continue to tighten. The diesel export ban has been set until 31st July and follows an earlier ban of petrol and aviation fuel exports.
Pending orders on delivery issued before the ban can still be executed.
The fuel shortages have been caused by Ukraine’s war on Russia’s energy infrastructure which has struck major oil refineries in many parts of Russia. Ukraine is now also targeting Russian oil tankers including those of its shadow fleet and has struck up to 35 oil tankers in the Sea of Azov this week alone.
Russia is currently importing fuel from Belarus and India to compensate for its shortages, but the shortages remain widespread across Russia with citizens queuing in long lines at fuel-stations to fill their cars.
The worsening fuel shortages are rapidly eroding public morale in Russia, as Russian citizens grow increasingly weary of bearing the consequences of their war on Ukraine.
