Ukrainians took to the streets this weekend in protest of a surprise government reshuffle by President Volodymyr Zelensky as Russia kept striking multiple cities with drones, bombs and ballistic missiles. Kyiv was being targeted as of early this morning and rescue teams have rushed to recover people beneath the rubbles of homes. At least one civilian was reported killed and seven others injured.
On Saturday, Russia struck a civilian passenger train in the Zaporizhzhia region (featured image). Separately, another civilian was killed in the city of Zaporizhzhia by a Russian drone. Russia keeps prioritising the use of fuel for airstrikes against Ukrainian civilians despite a catastrophic fuel shortage back home and also on the front-lines.
The protests recorded in several cities over the weekend mainly focused on demands for the reinstatement of former Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who claimed to have clashed with the head of the Armed Forces over his resistance to reforms. Previous Minister Fedorov is credited with Ukraine’s significant progress in its drone war against Russia and with minimising casualties on the front line.
President Zelensky said that following consultations with senior personnel that changes will be made to his original announcements and is thought to keep his previous Defence Minister in a senior role.
