As much as I sympathise with the heartfelt messages of support for Daphne’s family and the call for the continued fight to seek full justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia, let’s be brutally honest.
There will never be full justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia, and the man who admitted to paying for her murder has walked free.
The only way the Attorney General can appeal the verdict is on points of law, and the scope of such an appeal is very limited.
Yorgen Fenech cannot be charged again with the same crime.
I personally believe that Keith Schembri and Joseph Muscat both knew of the plan to execute and murder Daphne Caruana Galizia, and that is why they called an early election in 2017. I am also convinced that Keith Schembri was involved with Yorgen Fenech in the murder of Daphne, but the fact is that there is little evidence that could sustain such a case.
There is a new and ongoing investigation into the involvement of third parties. Although I support this investigation wholeheartedly, I have little hope that it will yield results, only because the material available is scant. Keith Schembri also deleted his evidence, and the Police failed to search his properties at the right and opportune moments.
The only way that Daphne could be served some justice at this point is if those involved in the Electrogas corruption deal, including Yorgen Fenech, Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi and their corrupt accountant Brian Tonna, are charged over their scheme.
