Up to 18 North Korean soldiers have defected from the Russian army and crossed into the Ukraine border from the Kursk and Bryansk region. The Russian army is recruiting thousands of foreigners to swell its ranks including regular army soldiers from North Korea and China. 10,000 North Korean troops are reported to be fighting in the Russian army against Ukraine. There are also many reports of Chinese soldiers fighting in Ukraine.
Apart from taking on Chinese and North Korean soldiers in a regular process, Russia is scamming and kidnapping thousands of workers across Asia and Africa to fight in Ukraine. Many of these Africans are lured to Russia with promises about work contracts, but the work contracts are actually army contracts to fight in Ukraine.
Russia’s war effort in Ukraine is also being heavily support by Iran via missile, rockets and drones sales to Russia. Thousands of Shahed Drones and ballistic missiles that were produced by Iran have been used by Russia on Ukraine. The EU has reacted by imposing sanctions on Iran, yet sanctions so far have proved ineffective as a tool for deterrence.
The European Union doesn’t seem to care or mind that the alliance of the Axis of Evil is winning a war in Ukraine: in Europe’s periphery. Europe should be alarmed by these developments, as the consequences of a Ukrainian capitulation are becoming ever more clear. Europe’s defense is as vulnerable as ever, with European unity weaker than ever and deterrence long gone.
If the United States withdraws its support for Ukraine, Europe will be left by itself to figure out Ukraine’s security and its own security. Europe already got it wrong the first time by failing to properly support Ukraine in winning the war. If Europe fails again by betraying the Ukrainians and forcing them to capitulate, it won’t just be a gross injustice for Ukraine–it will also be one of the biggest security failures and defeats in European history. This defeat will be followed by a severe weakening of Europe’s security and a new era of impunity for the Axis of Evil.
