China sends naval ships and warplanes to Taiwan’s Strait after cutting communication cables with Matsu islands

China has sent up to 35 warplanes, 7 naval vessels and up to 90 coast-guard vehicles to Taiwan’s Strait earlier today after cutting the communication cables between Taiwan and its outlying Matsu islands. While China’s vessels are maneuvering across Taiwan’s Strait, a US P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine aircraft is currently patrolling the line.

China has already cut other undersea communication cables of Taiwan earlier this year and press reports state that China has even created a particular technology for this act of sabotage. China has also been cutting Taiwan’s undersea water cables since 2023.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has stated multiple times that China intends to invade and occupy Taiwan while China has been escalating its grey-zone tactics against its much smaller neighbour.
