Multiple raids free various Black slaves in Libya

Updated: We could confirm that the Public Prosecutor in Tripoli has coordinated with various military factions including the Libyan National Army of Khalifa Haftar for these latest operations. More updates will follow.

Multiple raids coordinated and backed by the Libyan Public Prosecutor’s Office (Tripoli) have freed various Black slaves in captivity in Libya including 263 slaves in the town of Jalu, according to the Prosecutor. Photos published by the Prosecutor show signs ofย  torture on the captives. The captives were ransomed to their families for sums as high as $17,000.

Two men responsible for the illegal operation were arrested while others fled the scene.

In separate news, Naima Jamal who was captured and forced into slavery in the south-eastern district of Kufra has also been freed. The news confirms that the Public Prosecutor in Tripoli is coordinating with the forces of the Libyan National Army in the east to address these cases.
