Israel has killed more than 200 people, many of them women and children in dozens of airstrikes and artillery attacks in Gaza. The surprise attacks came without an official announcement by Israel that it is resuming its war on Gaza. The Israeli Defence Forces have released a brief statement saying that they are currently targeting Hamas terrorist targets in Gaza.
Hamas released a number of hostages to Israel in exchange of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners as part of the ceasefire agreement, however Hamas has accused Israel of not complying with the ceasefire agreement for refusing to enter into withdrawal negotiations which Israel is obliged to commit to as part of the second phase of the ceasefire deal. There is no evidence that Hamas has broken the ceasefire agreement. Palestinians in Gaza also face the risk of famine after Israel block all humanitarian aid more than two weeks ago. Israeli strikes against Gaza started on Sunday and escalated yesterday evening.
In a brief statement, Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela condemned the attacks on Gaza. Opposition Leader Bernard Grech described the attacks as a step backward.
