UPDATED: A Maltese marine surveyor from the local authorities has been accepted by the crew’s captain “Conscience” to board the ship and conduct a survey of the damage.
Official intelligence analysts studying footage and imagery of the attack on the Freedom Flotilla vessel, “Conscience” have confirmed with the The Maltese Herald, that the probability is that the vessel was hit by a grenade.
The intelligence analysts have studied footage and audio and imagery released to the public. They cite the downward looking metal in the blast scene and its small radius as evidence of a small explosion similar to the effect of a grenade. The audio of the footage in which the explosion is heard also resembles that of a grenade explosion the intelligence analysts added.
The investigations are still ongoing.
The Maltese government has offered the vessel “Conscience”, to pay for on-site repairs for the ship so that it may be able to continue with its mission but the authorities have also warned the vessel that its crew will be arrested if it entered Maltese waters due to the vessel’s lack of registration.
An Israeli reconnaissance warplane flew around Malta’s airspace hours before the incident took place.
The crew of the “Conscience” have refused the boarding of a Maltese marine surveyor to conduct inspections.
