Sixth turtle nest confirmed at Ramla l-Ħamra – Another milestone in a record season

Malta’s turtle nesting season continues to break records, with the sixth confirmed nest discovered early this morning at Ramla l-Ħamra bay in Gozo.

Nature Trust – FEE Malta volunteers, who were already on patrol near existing nest sites, spotted the turtle – later identified as Angela – as she came ashore to lay her eggs. Officials from the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) and Nature Trust quickly responded to ensure the area was secured and the turtle protected.

This marks the third confirmed nest at Ramla l-Ħamra and the sixth nationwide this summer, following earlier nests at Ġnejna, Għadira, and previous two laid by a turtle named Johanna at the same Gozo beach.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid disturbing the area, especially by staying away from the nesting sites and refraining from using artificial light.

Anyone who spots a turtle or nest is encouraged to report it immediately by calling ERA on 2292 3500 or Nature Trust on 9999 9505. Those wishing to volunteer can reach out via email at turtle.ramla@gmail.com.
