US Secretary of War disowns NATO and says that the US is only focused on securing its borders

Earlier this week, Poland was deliberately attacked by Russian drones sent deep inside its territory. Most of the drones were shot down and caused no casualties. European allies including Italy, Romania and the Netherlands scrambled fighter jets to Poland during the attack.

Poland applied NATO’s article 4 mechanism following the attacks which provides for consultation with NATO to strengthen its defences. France has pledged to send 3 Rafaele fighter jets to Poland. Spain also pledged to send its fighter plans to Poland.

NATO has refused to acknowledge the fact that Russia attacked Poland and likewise, President Donald Trump did the same as he falsely speculated that the attack was an accident.ย  The US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth went even further and said that the US has long projected power in places that have a nebulous connection to US security. Secretary Hegseth emphasised that the US is only interested in securing its borders.

Pete Hegseth’s comments are very damning and clearly imply that the US government is not interested in applying NATO’s Article 5 if a European nation is attacked by Russia. In fact, a European nation was just attacked by Russia and the US Secretary of War implied that the attack “has a nebulous connection” to US security”.

Russia’s attack against Poland was made soon after the US announced it will be withdrawing technical and training assistance to NATO troops in eastern Europe.
