Yesterday, Hamas has kidnapped and executed Hisham al-Saftawi in the al-Nusseirat neighboruhood. Hamas is currently conducting purges of Palestinian dissidents and opponents of its rule on the pretext of purging Israeli collaborators. Actual criminal gangs in Gaza which collaborated with Israel are actually unscathed.
A statement issued by the Al-Saftawi family said that a large, armed force belonging to the al-Qassam Brigades stormed the family home in the al-Nuseirat area—Salah al-Din Street. “The sanctity of our home was violated, and women and children were assaulted in a manner that bears no relation to our people’s morals or our national traditions. This shameful, unacceptable behavior has been a great shock to the family and to everyone who knew Hisham for his character and patriotism.” the Al-Saftawi family said.
The Al-Saftawi family said that Hisham al-Saftawi spent two years in an Israeli jail, and had two of his sons martyred by Israel. The family has a legacy of up to 100 martyrs and moreover described Hamas as extremists who spill Palestinian blood. The family also called for accountability and justice for Hisham’s murder. The family will also not be organising a mourning tent until the murderers are brought to justice.
US President Donald Trump has threatened Hamas to stop their purges and urged them to fulfill their obligations according to his peace plan. Hamas is expected to disarm and handover administration but there is no sign it is ready to fulfill these demands.
Palestinians in Gaza are also reporting that Hamas is yet again stealing humanitarian food aid, including cooking-oil and selling it to residents.
Support for Hamas in Gaza has declined significantly during Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza with the majority of Palestinians in Gaza wanting Hamas to give up power.
