The Labour government and Prime Minister Robert Abela, have been repeating their reductive and banal talking-point in defence of Joseph Muscat’s corruption, that Steward Health Care never stole €400 million. This is a very puerile argument that suupposedly defends the extensive fraud and corruption over the public hospitals concessions.
The Labour Party even made use of a kangaroo-court to further cover-up the case, and used the case to pay-off its officials.
The Magisterial Inquiry estabnlished that there is evidence that up to €50 million were syphoned by various individuals from the public hospitals concessions but the figure can be much higher because the Police refused to conduct their investigations.
However, Vitals and Steward Health Care didn’t just steal public funds. They also defrauded the local banking sector and mainly Bank of Valletta, which is directly controlled by the government via its appointments and serves as the Labour Party’s ally in government.
Bank of Valletta fired its Risk Officer, Miguel Borg, after The Maltese Herald we pointed out that Miguel Borg never flagged the risk behind the loan to Steward Health Care. The loan was eventually unpaid and Bank of Valletta didn’t even pursue its claims of credit losses in the US Courts.
BOV remained quite about its loan to Stewrad so as not to embaress the Labour government.
It is true that there isn’t evidence that Steward Health Care syphoned up to €400 million in funds, but apparently the Labour government is happy and content that evidence shows that in total, Steward Health Care stole up to €86 million both in public and private funds.
After being sacked from BOV, Miguel Borg was awarded with a six-figure salaried-government job at Malta Enterprise.
