Opposition Leader Alex has held a press conference and demanded Social Housing Minister Roderick Galdes to resign. Failing to resign on his own volition, Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg said that Roderick Galdes needs to be sacked by the Prime Minister.
Alex Borg said that Roderick Galdes needs to resign over accusation of having backroom talks with contractors of Malita Investments. He also needs to resign over an unusual property purchase from the same contractor who was awarded a €27 million tender from the Housing Authority. The contractor is Excel Investments, a company owned by Joseph Portelli, Mark Agius and Daniel Refalo.
This the second time that Alex Borg is showing that he can go against the construction lobby despite the significant influence this lobby exerts on political parties via its donations. Joseph Portelli is a Gozitan developer who has been publicly supportive of Alex Borg. Knowing how Joseph Portelli reacts to scrutiny, he is probably feeling the ick seeing his Gozitan friend inferring that he has been involved in corruption.
