Jason Azzopardi publishes the apartment prices of the Gelmus Estate belying Minister Roderick Galdes

Jason Azzopardi has published a list of property prices that were sold of the Gelmus estate built by Joseph Portelli and his business partners, belying claims by Social Housing Minister Roderick Galdes that he bought the property at market price. Social Housing Minister said that he gave a deposit of €5,000 to the seller in 2022 to lock-in the price and purchased the property in 2024. The penthouse was purchased for a total of €140,000 and came with a garage.

Prices listed show a minimum price of €165,000 (without a garage). Minister Galdes bought the property from Excel Investments, which in the same year, obtained a €27 million public tender to construct social housing.

Opposition Leader Alex Borg has called on Roderick Galdes to resign.

Minister Galdes has accumulated a large property portfolio as Social Housing Minister and was also investigated by the FIAU.

    Lets us for one second assume that Social Housing Minister Roderick Galdes is telling the truth that in 2021 the price for a Penthouse with a jacuzzi AND a lock-up garage was 140,000 euros (My estimate is it was closer to 200,000 euros in 2021). His pathetic excuse that he paid 5K to lock the price in 2021 holds no water. Only the 2024 promise of sale counts and nothing else and in 2024 I estimate the value to be closer to 400,000 euros.

    Calling for Galdes to resign is not enough. He needs to be investigated.
