Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as President of Venezuela yesterday after declaring that she is looking forward to cooperate with the US. The previous Vice-President toned down her discourse against the US and did not reiterate her demand to the US to return Maduro.
Delcy Rodríguez is a member of the ruling-party Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela, which is currently still in control of Venezuela. President Donald Trump previously said that the US will be controlling Venezuela.
The Venezuelan army and police are out in the streets on full alert under directions of a national emergency. Anyone supporting the US raid that captured Maduro is being arrested. Earlier today the Venezuelan army shot its own drones in panic in Caracas near the Presidential Palace. The Minister of Interior and Justice Diosdado Cabello released another video with his security forces that are patrolling the streets of Caracas.
Maduro was taken to a New York Court today and had his charges read to him. He is being charged with conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism, drug trafficking and weapons smuggling. He pleaded not guilty and declared himself a political prisoner. He also said that he was “a decent man”.
Maduro’s lawyer is Barry Pollack, who also represented Julian Assange.
