De facto Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez calls on US to cooperate: tone shifts

The de facto Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez issued a statement declaring she seeks cooperation with the US for “shared development within the framework of international law”. Her tone has shifted from her previous statements, which were aligned with those of her government colleagues that condemned the US military intervention and demanded the release of Maduro.

She did not call for the release of Maduro in her latest statement.

Delcy, who is Vice-President, is set to be sworn in as President later today.

The EU has called for respect to international law, however Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has supported the US military intervention.

Nicolás Maduro had previously lost the elections and is not the legitimate President of Venezuela.
