During the same week that the government announced the opening of a third domestic-violence hub run by the Police, Opposition Shadow Minister for Justice Joe Giglio said in Parliament that the rising number of domestic violence reports is inflated with unmerited and frivolous reports. His comments earned him condemnations by women’s groups.
Joe Giglio has many conflicts of interest in his role and can’t be taken seriously especially owing to the fact that he has been appointed in his role only because he supported Alex Borg in his leadership race against Adrian Delia. Joe Giglio can appease the core constituency of the Nationalists with his appearance and showing him around may impress the old tea-ladies but to the rest of the public he is just a big clown and a massive opportunist like many other criminal-lawyers who use politics as an extension of their professional interests.
The Nationalist Party cannot be taken seriously as an alternative government if it is seriously considering appointing him as Justice Minister.
