The US Attorney-General Pamela Bondi had a very difficult Congress hearing following the heavily redacted release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The Attorney-General started the hearing by giving an introduction about the government’s success on fighting crime, but the hearing quickly degenerated as the Attorney-General gave a very diffident and performative response to many questions about the case of Jeffrey Epstein and the release of his files.
The Attorney-General refused to answer questions on why the FBI Director and the Department of Justice have claimed that there is no evidence to charge further individuals on sex and child-trafficking. When asked about allegations about Donald Trump raping and murdering a teenage girl, Pam Bondi ridiculed the question and said these questions were meant to divert attention from President Trump’s successes. Instead she referred to the stock market hovering at all time highs referring to the Dow, the S&P500 and NASDAQ stock market indexes. Congressman Ted Lieu accused the Attorney-General of perjury for her answer. With regard to further prosecutions on the case, the Attorney-General invited Jeffrey Epstein’s victims to come forward to the DOJ with information.
Some of Jeffrey Epstein’s survivors were in the room and were addressed directly by Congresswoman Paramila Jayapal who asked them to stand up and raise their hand if they could not yet meet with the DOJ. All of them raised their hand and Congresswoman Jayapal asked the Attorney-General to apologise to them. The Attorney-General replied by saying “I won’t be part of these theatrics” leading to shouting and disruption of the hearing.
Attorney-Generali Bondi was also challenged about ICE and President Trump’s use of the DOJ for personal political vendettas. She defended ICE and refused to offer any apologies Instead she accused Democrat politicians of attacking ICE politically. She denied that the DOJ is being used to conduct personal vendettas for President Trump and accused Democrats of weaponising the DOJ against Donald Trump.
Following the hearing, Congressman Thomas Massie said that the Attorney-General refused to answer any questions.
In a previous Senate hearing, the Attorney-General also gave a very political performance whilst refusing to answer many questions.
Pam Bondi was also the Florida Attorney-General following a plea deal by her predecessors with Jeffrey Epstein.
President Trump feels vindicated over the files with a report that cites him denouncing Jeffrey Epstein in 2006, after Epstein was investigated.
