Housing Authority confirms it is renting out public properties to its employees: one employee applied to purchase a government property

The Housing Authority has replied to our Freedom of Information request and confirmed that one of its employees has applied to purchase a government property. The application was submitted to its board in 2024 and is still pending.

The Housing Authority claimed that it cannot disclose the name of the employee in question due to data protection rules, which is illogical given that the individual is not only a government employee but is also employed by the same authority from which she is requesting to purchase the property.

We had already previously identified the applicant, who is featured in the image above. Chantelle Cassar, the employee in question was also present at the Bogan High Society event at Gillieru during the weekend. Chantelle Cassar has also shared her political support for Alex Agius Saliba and Leonid McKay: the latter being the previous Housing Authority CEO. Alex Agius Saliba has denied pressuring Leonic McKay in favour of the applicant.

The Housing Authority has also admitted that it is renting out properties to its employees. These properties consist of three apartments and two maisonettes in the localities of Dingli, Siฤกฤกiewi, San ฤ wann and Valletta.

Effectively, and at face value, Leonid McKay has been involved in corrupt practices at the Housing Authority by allocating public properties to his and Labour Party supporters. Leonid McKay has recently been appointed CEO of Transport Malta despite stiff opposition by Transport Minister Chris Bonett.

We are publishing the full reply by the Housing Authority below.
