A government run with a Mafia-like network

As the press rightly reported yesterday, Mark Vassallo has been appointed as a director of Malita Investments. The government publicly-listed company has been fraught with corruption scandals under previous Minister Roderick Galdes, who was also compelled to resign.

Malita Investments is now led by the previous corrupt taxman Marvin Gaerty. The addition to Mark Vassallo to the board of directors is not only a sign that Labour persists with its political appointments in state bodies but also that Labour is using members of Labour’s criminal group including the associates of Keith Schembri to run government bodies.

Mark Vassallo, along with Edward Gatt is the lawyer to Keith Schembri, Neville Gafa, Rosianne Cutajar and others.

The government essentially keeps using state bodies to serve party interests and incidentally party interests right now are derived from a criminal group.

Malita Investments has been going through severe financial challenges and its financial model of mixing up government social housing projects in a for-profit publicly-listed vehicleย in a basket of government properties, does not make much financial sense, but the government is also kicking in BOV to help fund the company.

The new Minister Own Bonnici has been busy spending public funds on promoting himself on social media and going on holidays.

State bodies remain engulfed in corruption and inefficiency due to these persistent political appointments resulting in dysfunction and failed projects all along. As always, Labour is governing for itself and its interests.

You can find the notice of his appointment here.
