US Congress passes Act 23 sanctioning anyone who upholds ICC Arrest warrants against Benjamin Netanyahu

A Republican bill presented in Congress to protect Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ex-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant from pending arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court was passed with the backing of up to 45 Democrats. No Republicans voted against it.

The bill states that anyone who upholds the arrest warrants of the ICC against the Israeli Prime Minister and his ex-Defense Minister would be sanctioned by the US government. The arrest warrants were issued over charges of willingly and deliberately killing civilians and causing a systematic humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The United States is not party to the Rome Statute, which recognises the ICC, but Germany and France, who are members, have also refused to uphold the arrest warrants.

Israel is currently conducting an ethnic cleansing campaign in the north of Gaza where it is forcefully displacing residents in preparation for a permanent occupation of the area. Up to 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by the IDF with 20,000 being civilians mostly women and children. Gaza is suffering from a humanitarian causes with severe shortages of food and water and most people are living in tents whilst suffering the effects of severe weather conditions.
