In a press conference held yesterday at the Presidential Palace in Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s position on peace talks with Russia that it won’t give up Crimea or any other Ukrainian territory. President Zelensky’s comment were made after the US relayed Russia’s proposals to Ukraine for peace which include US recognition of Crimea.
President Zelensky also stated that negotiations on the mineral rights deal with the US are ongoing, but also highlighted that Ukraine is still insisting on the purchase of Patriot missiles which the US has so far denied. Zelensky insisted that he seeks a partnership with the US. On NATO-membership, the Ukrainian President reiterated that non-NATO countries don’t have a veto over the membership of other sovereign states. President Trump is focusing US foreign policy efforts regarding Ukraine on securing a mineral rights deal and offering concessions to Russia.
President Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine is willing to abide with a ceasefire as soon as Russia announces it and it is also willing to implement every equal ceasefire measure that Russia implements. Talks between European leaders and President Zelensky are also set to continue in London.
Meanwhile Russia conducted airstrikes with missiles and drones on several Ukrainian cities including against Kharkiv, Odessa, Poltava and Zaporizhzhia. Russia has intensified its attacks against Ukrainian civilians and Ukrainian cities following the US announcement that Russia had agreed to a civilian ceasefire. Russia is attacking Ukrainian cities and targeting Ukrainian civilians indiscriminately on a daily basis, often with missiles loaded with shrapnel, at the same time that the US is pressuring Ukraine to give up territory to Russia.
