Russia has launched more than 400 Shahed drones against Ukrainian cities on Thursday night and Friday morning in one of its largest drone attacks since the war started. Russia has progressively increased its airstrikes against Ukrainian cities since it got engaged in a “peace process” by US President Donald Trump. It also launched up to six ballistic missiles and 36 cruise missiles.
Cities of Chernihiv, Lutsk and Kyiv were targeted and up to 80 people injured and several reportedly killed. Russia attacked Kharkiv and Kyiv again earlier this morning. There are also reports that Russia applied its double-tapping bombing technique on civilians in Kharkiv (bombing the same site again when rescuers and firefighters are at the scene).
Ukraine is currently continuing with drone strikes against Russian airbases in an effort to reduce Russia’s capability to launch bomber attacks on Ukrainian cities. Several strikes on airbases inside Russia were reported at the end of the week. Referring to Ukraine’s attacks on Russia’s strategic nuclear bombers, President Donald Trump commented aboard Air Force One that Ukraine had given “a reason for Russia to bomb the hell out of them (Ukraine).”
Previously, President Trump casually commented that Russia was to retaliate for Ukraine’s attack on its airbases, but then deleted his post.
Meanwhile, the frontlines in Ukraine are still roughly the same with Russia losing more than one thousands troops every day and soon nearing the one million casualty figure. Ukraine is also set to receive a record amount of military aid this year by European countries that includes up to €5 billion from Germany, £4.5 billion from the UK, €1 billion from Belgium, $700 million from Norway, and €400 million from the Netherlands, in military aid. The US has announced no new military aid to Ukraine for this year.
