Yesterday evening, two Romanian F-16s departed from Fetesti Airbase and intercepted a Russian Shahed drone that entered the region of Tulcea from Odessa Ukraine. The drone was intercepted but was not shot down. It was escorted out of the country into Ukrainian airspace.
Russia has targeted Poland with a drone attack last week, but the attack was not acknowledged by NATO or US President Donald Trump.
Russia’s drone attack against Poland and its increasing number of incursions are part of Russia’s escalatory actions against European allies of Ukraine and its neighbours.
Romania’s Minister of Defence Ionut Mosteanu confirmed the drone incursion and condemned it. He said that Romania and NATO allies remain vigilant and ready to protect Allied airspace.
