US Secretary of State Marco Rubio struck a different tone on Russia’s attack on Poland than the President and the Secretary of War, telling reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland that it was “a highly escalatory move,” but that they still needed to gather all the facts before making an assessment. NATO and the US government have so far refused to acknowledge it was an attack.
Although the drones the crashed into Poland were not loaded with explosives, the drones were intentionally sent to Poland with some of the drones aimed at disrupting air-defences. Poland and NATO forces downed up to ten Russian drones.
A Russian drone that entered Romania airspace on Saturday was escorted back to Ukraine by Romanian F-16s.
European NATO allies are now sending small amounts of military hardware and troops to Poland. 3 French Rafaele jets are patrolling Polish skies and more Polish military moved hardware closer to the border.
