Egypt and the United States have signed US President Donald Trump’s Peace Plan for Gaza at Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt, which includes the 20-points that Israel agreed to earlier last month. The signing ceremony has been attended by several world leaders including President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Premier Giorgia Meloni, Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Jordan’s King Abdullah, Pakistan’s Premier Shehbaz Sharif and President Tayyip Erdogan.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is also present and shook hands with President Trump on his arrival for an unusual and rare photo between them. Hamas did not attend the ceremony.
The peace plan stipulates that Palestinians in Gaza will be allowed to leave Gaza but will also be allowed to remain and opportunities will be provided to Palestinians for the reconstruction of Gaza. According to the peace plan, Israel will not occupy or rule Gaza.
Israel has withdrew from half of Gaza but is expected to withdraw from the other half of Gaza after Hamas disarms and hands over administration. Hamas has agreed to hand over administration but said it will not disarm. Earlier today Hamas released all the remaining living Israeli hostages in exchange for nearly 2000 Palestinian prisoners.
President Trump was in Israel prior to the signing of the deal where he gave an hour long-speech at Knesset. In his speech at the Knesset he praised Israeli’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and also praised his own cabinet colleagues, including US Secretary of state Marco Rubio whom he described as the Greatest Secretary of state in US history.
There has been a lot of praise for President Trump and many mentions of peace but no mentions at all to the situation in the Palestinian West Bank where Jewish illegal settlements keep encroaching on Palestinian territory on a daily basis.
