The Maltese Herald has confirmed thanks to several sources that the ongoing campaign by the Police to sign MOUs with several entities is a conspiracy enacted by the government and supported by Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa to bypass the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit. The government is executing an ongoing plan to clampdown on the FIAU after the FIAU made extensive investigations on a number of MPs and politicians including the Prime Minister himself.
Many FIAU investigations have been sent to the Police which were eventually shelved. The Police have refused to investigate and prosecute politicians based on many detailed FIAU reports including a report by Minister Roderick Galdes. The Police re-opened an investigation on Minister Roderick Galdes following further revelations which were published by the press and Jason Azzopardi.
The MOU between Bank of Valletta and the Police was also prompted by the bank’s executives themselves who are willfully engaged and involved in the conspiracy to bypass the FIAU. Through the MOU that the bank signed with the Police, the bank will now be re-directing information which it previously passed to the FIAU directly to the Police. The concept and aims in the agreement with the Auditor-General are the same.
The FIAU remains one of the last uncompromised investigative institutions in the country and the government plans to depauperise it with Labour-party associates just as it did with the Office of the Attorney-General. The Police’s Financial Crimes Investigations Department is run by a Labour Party loyalist.
Other sources have informed us that pressure on the FIAU during this year by the government is meant to increase. They have also confirmed with us that pressure on the FIAU is also increasing due to a major investigation that was conducted last year by multiple authorities that alarmed the government.
The government’s plan to create dysfunction at the FIAU will be further explained when our major investigation will be published.
