The Maltese Herald has confirmed with its Labour Party sources that previous Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo was dismissed by the Prime Minister following internal reports that the Tourism Minister’s wife, Amanda Muscat was being investigated by the police for an alleged kickback she received from an MTA client. The story broke out in the Times of Malta as soon as the Tourism Minister submitted his resignation letter.
Clayton Bartolo is also under police investigation for facilitating a fake contract to his wife.
Prime Minister Robert Abela was unaware of the kickback until it was reported to him by internal sources, who informed him of an ongoing investigation into suspicious transactions from Valerio Agnoli to Amanda Muscat. Following this revelation, and after previously defending his Tourism Minister for awarding a fake contract to his wife, the Prime Minister decided to dismiss the Minister of Tourism.
