One of the reasons why Jason Azzopardi argued against the government’s reforms to abolish the right of citizens to request a Magisterial Inquiry is that Magisterial Inquiries were the only recourse a citizen could apply to prompt investigations on abuse by the Police.
Now, we face exactly a similar situation where Police abuse goes unchecked because there is no one who will investigate it.
The Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa will be investigating himself after the Court has ordered an investigation over the Police leaks to MaltaToday about the vexatious domestic violence case against dissident Robert Aquilina. Robert Aquilina’s wife also requested for the charges against her husband to be dropped and condemned the police leaks about the case. We were also informed by multiple sources that the leaks of Robert Aquilina’s case were made to Saviour Balzan, by the Police Commissioner himself.
There are other indications that the Police Commissioner attempted to create a vexatious case against Robert Aquilina. This is a developing story. The Police Commissioner is currently also conducting a sham investigation against Robert Aquilina over the Pilatus Bank investigation leaks.
