President Trump mulls US troops withdrawal from Eastern Europe as he launches diatribe against President Zelensky

President Donald Trump has launched a diatribe against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as he considers pulling out all US troops from Eastern Europe as part of his so called “peace deal” with Russia, over Ukraine. Ukraine is not involved in talks between the US and Russia and President Zelensky refused pressure from the US to capitulate to Russia, effectively reducing talks between US and Russia on bilateral issues. Europe is also not involved in talks between Russia and the US.

Talks between the US and Russia are developing into a strategic alignment between the two countries. The US is making it clear it wants to establish normal and friendly relations with Russia as it takes Russia’s side over Ukraine. Apart from lifting sanctions from Russia, the proposals being discussed between the US and Russia include a complete withdrawal of US troops from European countries that joined NATO after 1990. The countries that joined NATO after 1990 are Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia, Albania and Croatia, Montenegro and North Macedonia and Finland and Sweden. Poland hosts the largest contingent of US troops with up to 10,000 US troops. The US is also considering to withdraw its troops from Kosovo.

Speaking to Ukrainian media, President Zelensky denied President Trump’s claims that Ukraine received up to $300 billion in US aid and said that Ukraine received from the US up to $67 billion in military aid and €31 billion in budget financing. The Ukrainian President said that the deal proposed by the US to Ukraine for half of its mineral resources was not taken seriously. President Zelensky added that President Trump “is living in the Russian disinformation sphere”.

A large amount of pledged US aid military aid by the Biden administration did not arrive to Ukraine and Europe actually provided more military and financial aid to Ukraine than the US with more than €130 billion in aid provided. According to the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, President Zelensky currently enjoys up to 57% support of Ukrainians, but press reports state that support for the Ukrainian President is increasing following the attacks against him by President Trump.
