Israel has announced the mobilisation of humanitarian aid to Gaza following widespread international pressure. Since March, it had blocked the entry of humanitarian aid, causing famine and a rise in infant mortality, which prompted strong international condemnation.
Israel blamed the United Nations for refusing to pick up humanitarian aid and filmed pallets of humanitarian aid left out in the open in a parking lot inside the borders of Gaza. A United Nations director however retorted by saying that the Kerem Shalom Crossing “is not a MacDonald’s drive-through”ย and that the United Nations needs to obtain multiple approvals to pick-up aid apart from a pause in firing. Israel has announced that it will re-start a humanitarian pause from this morning.
Egyptian trucks have begun preparing earlier this night to cross into Gaza from rom the Kerem Shalon Crossing in the coming morning. Air-drops of humanitarian aid have also been renewed.
Israel has shot, bombed and killed aid workers and bombed humanitarian aid convoys during its genocidal campaign in Gaza, in addition to banning UNRWA and destroying most civilian infrastructure. The distribution of food by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation was also marred with the shooting of mote than 550 Palestinians. The United Nations has described the humanitarian aid system as having collapsed since Israel unilaterally broke the ceasefire with Hamas and resumed hostilities in March.
