US President Donald Trump halted US military aid to Ukraine citing last Friday’s meeting as the reason. Ukraine was set to receive large quantitates of anti-air missiles that were approved by the previous Joe Biden Administration. Previously, President Trump halted new weapons sales to Ukraine. Since last week, Russia has launched up to 1,050 attack drones, up to 1,300 aerial bombs, and more than 20 missiles against Ukrainian cities.
European leaders have drafted a plan that has been proposed to Washington on a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The plan includes security guarantees provided by European countries to Ukraine, but details are yet unclear. President Zelensky reiterated that security guarantees are necessary to prevent another war. He also thanked European countries for sending further weaponry including anti-air defense.
In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Ukrainian journalist Nataliya Gumenyuk stated that President Trump expects Ukraine to trust his assurance that Russia won’t attack again, which she stressed is not a proper security guarantee. She also said that Ukrainians aren’t moved by President Trump’s talk-down of President Zelensky at the White House. Latest polls in Ukraine show significant majority support for President Zelensky whilst the majority of Ukrainians also seem to believe that Ukraine can still fight Russia without the help of the United States.
