Yesterday at the White House at the initial press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Donald Trump said that he has solved six wars. Here are the facts behind his claim.
Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda
Shortly after President Trump entered office, his administration did in fact broker a peace deal between the Republic Democratic of Congo and Rwanda. The peace document can be found here. However, the peace agreement that was signed does not oblige the M23 rebels to withdraw from Congo, who originally had sparked the conflict, once again prompting international calls for the cessation of hostilities. A final peace deal with the M23 rebels who still occupy two regions in Congo still needs to be signed.
Israel vs Iranย
President Trump intervened in the Israel-Iran Twelve Day War by bombing Iran’s underground nuclear facility in Fordow. President Trump declared a ceasefire between Israel and Iran following the attack, concluding Israel’s bombing campaign that targeted Iran’s nuclear sites and its nuclear scientists. Israel had insisted with the US to strike the Fordow nuclear site given that US has specific bunker-buster bombs that could effectively destroy such targets. It is not clear whether President Trump is taking credit for bringing peace over an Israeli mission whose objectives were partially or fully fulfilled. However, it is true that President Trump has pressured Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu toย avoid starting new wars and bombing neighbours.
India and Pakistan
President Trump took credit for a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after India and Pakistan briefly clashed at the Kashmir border. The clashes were sparked by a terrorist attack by Kashmiri separatists who launched their attack from Pakistan. Subsequently, India struck the Kashmiri terrorists and their bases in Pakistan but Pakistan stated that up to 26 civilians were killed as a result of India’s attacks. Pakistan retaliated brieflyย causing the death of one Indian soldier and 2 civilians. On May 10th 2025, President Trump declared that India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire thanks to his mediation efforts, but India denied President Trump’s claims and said that the ceasefire was a result of bilateral negotiations.
Cambodia and Thailandย
In late July, President Trump took credit over a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand who clashed over a border issue. President Trump called the leaders of both nations and told them that there wouldn’t be a trade deal unless hostilities ended. US pressure had probably helped bring an end to hostilities but the mediator in the conflict between the two parties was actually Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Armenia and Azerbaijanย
Recently, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a peace deal at the White House brokered at the White House. The war with Armenia and Azerbaijan was not in effect but the countries were technically also not at peace with each other. The peace deal resolved the issue on the corridor linking the Azeri Nakhchivan region with Azerbaijan’s mainland. Although this peace deal was actually signed in the White House, hostilities between the two countries had ended significantly before President Trump entered office and diplomatic negotiations through Turkey and Iran had started even prior.
ย Yemen
The only other conflict we can think of that President Trump had brought to an end was Yemen’s ballistic strikes against Israel, however these strikes have renewed on a smaller scale during the past few weeks.
Conclusion: Two peace deals in total. One peace deal did not involve an active war. The other peace deal is incomplete.ย
These are the six conflicts that President Trump was referring to and only two of them actually has a peace deal brokered by the United Stated which are the ones between Congo and Rwanda and Azerbiajan and Armenia, although the peace deal between Congo and Rwanda does not include all the parties to the conflict.
